Day 2
Had a nice time exploring today. Pushkar's mom arranged for a driver, Mr. Singh, to show us the city. Today we hit south Mumbai starting with the Gateway of India (picture 1) and the Taj Mahal Palace hotel (picture 2). The Taj you may remember was also the site of one of the 2008 bombings. Near by we did some shopping and had lunch. The next stop was the Jehangir Art Gallery, some nice artists there, one of my favorite paintings was another version of this one (http://www.saatchionline.com/art/Unknown-on-the-move/75116/321011/view). We wrapped up the day at The Hanging Gardens (last pictures).
We're still getting quite a lot of stares which we don't quite understand; even though we haven't seen many westerners, they aren't all that rare other times of the year. There are a lot of Indian tourists in town, though, and it is refreshing to see that they too get hounded by the peddlers and other "tourism industry professionals".
Not being able to eat street food and uncooked food is killing me. The chutneys smell great and the fresh lime sodas and press cane juice would be incredibly refreshing in this heat. Even so, the food we are eating has been delicious.
Tomorrow, I think we'll go see the Sanjay Ghandi National Park.
