Hue Today
Hi everyone,
You may notice that if you try to make a comment it is not immediately posted and it says something like administrator approval is needed. This is happening because I have set comments up to be moderated. This causes every comment to be emailed to me first for approval. I have only done this so I can read what you are all writing, I plan on approving everything people want to post.
Today we had a great day on a tour around Hue. We went to three emperor’s tombs, the citadel (the old home of the common home of the Nguyen Dynasty Emperors), the imperial city and the forbidden city (housed inside the citadel), and finally the fairy lady pagoda, the symbol of hue.
There was also one small excursion to a incense family. Here they were making incense and conical hats by hand. The incense making process was quite impressive. First they take a colourful stick, roll it in glue between a pallet and their table, then they roll it in sawdust from either sandalwood or cinnamon wood. The glue is pretty thick paste (like Elmer’s glue paste for anyone who remembers that) but more elastic making it pliable. When the incense has been rolled, they cut the end to detach it from the glue pile.
Our tour of the city ended with a boat ride on a dragon boat down the perfume river. The boat docked near our hotel, but instead of going straight back to our room we went to a floating restaurant and shared some spring rolls. Finally we went back to the room to get ready for dinner. We had Indian food.
