Monkeys like cashews

Hi all,

Just a little experience here. As i said, our hotel is a 15 minute boat ride out of town, but it is also a 1 hour jungle trek out of town. Today we decided to try the trails and see some of the viewpoints along the way. The viewpoints were great...spectacular panoramas of the islands.

Ko Phi Phi is actually made up of two primary land masses connected by a narrow sandy isthmus (the town is on the isthmus, and was facing the tsunami, this is why it got devastated when it came). Despite the recent destruction, the view is really really amazing. I tried to take some shots that can be spliced together later; we will see how that comes out.

We relaxed for a while at two of the viewpoints taking in the turquoise water and white sandy beaches from up high.

During our trek we passed a bunch of wildlife including hundreds of little green and red lizards and a huge troop of monkeys eating what I am 99% sure were cashews. They were probably eating the fruit, which is a big red or yellow pear shaped thing that smells very sweet. We didn't get to see the troop up close, but when they scattered when we approached there were at least 20 of them, and probably more.

We are in town now, waiting for another 4pm boat.

Its great fun here and we're having a great time.

-Tim
